Archie is an outgoing 9-year-old boy who enjoys music, looking through his books and playing with his family.
Archie is living with Holoprosencephaly, a condition he was born with where the mid line section of his brain hasn’t fully developed as it should. As a result, this has left him with both medical and development delays, which means it takes longer for Archie to use his gross motor skills.
Prior to Freedom Wheels, Archie had been given a second-hand bike which he never used. “The bike was so heavy to transport, and Archie found it so uncomfortable to use because it was just a regular bike that was not tailored to his needs,” said mum, Briohny.
With the help of Archie’s physiotherapist, Briohny and Terry found out about Freedom Wheels and how it could help him achieve his goals. From this referral, Briohny organised an assessment for Archie with the TAD Occupational Therapist.
“It was honestly a challenging experience which is what I had expected to be honest. The team did everything to ensure they understood Archie’s needs which is why the bike was designed so perfect for him.”
Seeing Archie ride his bike for the first time was such an extraordinary moment for Briohny & Terry. “Seeing him for the first time ride his bike, was amazing. He sort of sat up on his bike and looked around like he was the king of the castle.”
“Since he got his bike, he now able to ride with his cousins. To see him ride his beautiful bike down the street with his cousins, for the fist time, it was such a special moment. He was just on top of the world!”
Briohny & Terry praised Freedom Wheels and Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation for their commitment to getting the perfect bike for Archie.
“I’m so grateful. This has been life-changing for us. We’re so grateful that there are people out there doing that work and providing the service and funding for people, like our Archie. Our kids can be limited in so many parts of their lives and to see them achieve this goal, is so amazing. Thank you, Freedom Wheels and Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation!”
